Abelardo Padilla Duran

Abelardo Padilla Duran, 78, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning February 18th, 2006.

Abel was born to Margarita and Arismen Duran in McNary, Arizona on December 26th, 1927, where he spent most of his childhood. He was the youngest of seven brothers and sisters. He served in the Navy and graduated from A.S.U. as valedictorian. He worked in the insurance industry for several years and then for his family's restaurants, including TeePee del Norte which he owned.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia after being happily married for 53 years. Abel leaves behind three children, Rebecca Coughlin, Mark Duran and Thomas Duran along with their respective spouses. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Carmen, Brian, Kathleen & Michael Coughlin, Luc & Chloe Duran, Nicole & Matthew Duran. Abel also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Juliet Shelton and Kaden Salazar as well as many nieces and nephews. Abel was especially close to his older brother and best friend Tony Duran along with his wife Anna.

Those who knew him will remember him for his sarcastic wit and his kindness and generosity. He was a devout Catholic who could always be seen in the front row at Mass. A Rosary and Mass will be held at Saints Simon & Jude Catholic Church, 6351 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85017 on Thursday March 2nd with a reception to follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church.
