Carver, Jeanne Abbate
Jeanne Abbate Carver, born 1922, a valley resident since 1946, died November 22, 2002. Jeanne was a high school teacher and a community volunteer with endless energy and drive. Originally from Oak Park, Illinois, she graduated from Stephens College in 1942 with an A.A. degree and the University of Arizona in 1944 where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She received her Masters Degree in Business Education from Arizona State University.

In 1960 Jeanne helped to establish a community service organization known as the Assistance League of Phoenix, and held many committee positions during her 42 years of membership, including serving as President in 1981. It was truly her passion in life along with the many dear friends she found in the League. She was a precinct Committee woman for the Republican Party for many years. Jeanne was a docent for the Phoenix Art Museum and was Co-Chair of the "Art All Around Us Program" at Phoenix College. A long time member of the Phoenix Country Club, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Carver. She is survived by her sister, Elaine; cousin, Bonnie; dear friend, Dr. W. Fleming King; her three daughters, Judy, Carolyn and Cathy; their husbands, Mark, Jim and Richard; and their children, Jaima, Bridget, Cara, Brett, Brad, Kristen, Caylee, Jake, Krystal and Allison; and her beloved dog, Bandit. A viewing and Rosary were held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 4715 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ, immediately followed by a Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Assistance League of Phoenix, 7044 N. 7th St, Phoenix, AZ 85020 or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 1313 E. Osborn Road, Ste. #200, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home. Published in the Arizona Republic from 11/27/2002 - 11/28/2002.
