Leo Patrick O'Neil

Leo Patrick O’Neil died on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Prescott. Born on March 17 1927, in Elwood Ind., he was the son of Leo and Agnes (Boskey) O’Neil. He was 81 years old.

Leo was a member of the VFW Post 541 and the American Legion Post 6 in Prescott, and the Moose Lodge 319 and the Elks Lodge 330 in Prescott Valley. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and surfing the Internet. He was a devoted husband and father. He was most proud of his service to his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was a Frogman UDT Team 11. He served in World War II in the Pacific Campaign and the Korean War. He was also proud of being the patriarch of the O’Neil clan. He will be greatly missed.

Leo is survived by his loving wife, Connie; daughters, Peggy (Ted) Baier of Lindale, Texas, Patti (Bob) Jaeger of Mountain Grove, Mo., Pam (Bill) Patrick of Toquerville, Utah; son Mike (Janice) O’Neil of Gainsville, Texas; step-daughter Sherry (Jody) Smith of Tejarris, N.M.; step-son William Thomas of Simi Valley, Calif.; grandchildren Leo, Lisa, Lori, Michelle, Dayna, Bobby, Eddie, Stephanie, Ricky, Frederick, Jonathan, Nicole; greatgrandchildren Amber, Steven, Patrick, Shawn, Ashlee, Katie, Donovan, Sarah, Kyle, Maggie, Brigette, Morgan, Brooklynn, Gavin, Cano; four great-greatgrandchildren; brother Bernard O’Neil of Valparaiso, Ind. His sister Betty Stanton preceded him in death.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at the VA Chapel, 500 Highway 89, Prescott. Leo will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix during a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leo’s name to the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, 500 Highway 89, Prescott, AZ 86313.
