Daniel Nungaray Martinez, 83, entered into rest June 19, 2010. A resident of Parker, Ariz., as well as a tribal member, Dan served his community as Chief of Police for the Colorado River Indian Tribes; worked as a police officer for the Paiute Reservation in McDermitt, Nev.; and was a Criminal Investigator for the Tohono O'odham and White Mountain Apache Reservations.

Dan received a number of awards, including two Citations of Valor presented to him by the Secretary of Interior in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Martinez, daughter, Christy Martinez; brother, Frank Martinez; sister Gloria McVey; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
