James Edward Fitzgerald, the ninth child of James M. and Zilpha E. Fitzgerald, was born January 4, 1899 in Barney, Iowa. In 1962 he moved to Tucson, Arizona. He passed away at home in Tucson.

On September 30, 1926 he was united in marriage with Ruth E. Cartwright, who survives. Five children were born of this union. Donna M. Smith, Council Bluffs; Irma L. Bricker, Earlham; Leola F. Ftizgerald, Tucson, Arizona; Wilma A. Fitzgerald, deceased; L. Wayne Fitzgerald, Arivaca, Arizona.

Those of his family who will miss him include his helpmate of 48 years, four children, 6 grandchildren, James Smith, Dan Smith, Elaine Smith, all of Omaha, Nebraska; and Linda Smith of Council Bluffs; Bruce Bricker, Earlham; and Shawn Fitzgerald, Danville, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Sussy Smith and Faith Smith. He is survived by a sister, Velma Brooks, Springfield, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was a former business man in Earlham and before his retirement he worked as a welder for Solar Aircraft in Des Moines.

(Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery in Madison County, Iowa.)
