Joseph Gerald (Jerry) Wurtz

Joseph “Jerry” Wurtz died Oct. 3, 2008 in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Greenleaf, Kan., the son of Joseph J. and Marie E. (Fagan) Wurtz. Jerry was 86 years old.

He retired from over 35 years working for civil service in 1988; and he and June moved to Prescott from Texas. He soon became very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; serving as sacristan and doing what ever was needed. He enjoyed wood working, do-it yourself projects and keeping his yard.

He wrote that he was proudest of his grandchildren and his completed projects.

He is survived by June his wife of 49 years; son John; daughters, Mary Smith, Lee Anne Garrett and Gayle York; brother John; sister Bernadette Willis; and 10 grandchildren.

A Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, corner of Cortez and Carleton with visitation one-hour prior.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fluery, Prescott with final farewell and commendation at Prescott National Cemetery.

Family suggests memorials in his name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society 150 Fluery, Prescott, AZ 86301.

Joseph “Jerry” Wurtz died October 3, 2008 in Prescott, Arizona. He was born September 26, 1922 in Greenleaf, Kansas to Joseph J. and Marie E. (Fagan) Wurtz. Jerry was 86 years old.
