Russell A. Klamert, 89, of Chino Valley passed away Oct. 4, 2008, at Las Fuentes Care Center in Prescott after a long illness. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 13, 1918, to Emil and Eva (Nichols) Klamert. He was the middle of three brothers.

Russell grew up and went to school in St. Louis. At the age of 16, he met a young woman named Betty Zalaudek, a student at another high school. After dating for five years they married in October of 1939, a union that would last almost 67 years until her death in March 2006.

In 1951 Russell and Betty moved from St. Louis to Phoenix with their two young daughters, Barbara and Judy. Russell went to work for Guth Pascoe as an office bookkeeper. After both of their girls were grown and married, they moved to Pinetop, Ariz., and Russell went to work for the White Mountain Apache Tribe as an accountant and office manager for the Fort Apache Timber Company sawmill operation. In 1980 he retired, and he and Betty moved to Prescott Valley in 1983. After Betty's death, Russell moved to Chino Valley to be near his daughter, Judy.

Throughout their years together, Russell and Betty were very active in their communities and their church. They loved to travel and had driven from coast to coast to see the sights and visit relatives. They both loved camping and fishing, and visited practically every lake and stream in Arizona that contained fish, boasting that they always came away with at least one.

Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; his older daughter, Barbara Wright of Albany, Ore.; his parents; and his brothers, Emil and Kenneth Klamert. He is survived by his daughter Judy Carver and her husband, Tom, of Chino Valley; grandchildren Glenda, Laura, Julie, David and Sharon; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all.

A memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley is pending at this time.

Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel assisted the family.
