BOVEE Ph.D., Oliver H. Oliver H. Bovee, PhD, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003. The son of Marshall C. Bovee and Laura B. Rose, Oliver was born December 30, 1923, in Monroe, Michigan, where he lived until joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1942. A decorated war veteran, he served in combat as an infantryman in Italy in the US Army, "E" Company, 85th Regiment, 10th Mountain Infantry Division. After the war, he settled in Tempe's Victory Village with his first wife, Rosemary. Together they raised their children, Susan, Luscinda and Gregory. He was one of the founding members of the Friday Morning Men's Bible Study for the Methodist Church. After completing R.O.T.C. at ASU, he resigned his commission as Captain in order to concentrate on his educational ambitions. He began his career in 1950 as a teacher and administrator at Loma Linda School in Phoenix. In 1963 he became Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum in the Creighton School District, and later became the district's Superintendent. Oliver took a position as Curriculum Director in the Tempe Elementary School District in 1978 where he remained until retiring in 1984. Oliver was married to second wife, Cora, from 1968-2001. He is preceded in death by his son, Mark; brother, William Stewart; and sisters, Janice Hassenzahl and Susan Mozingo. He is survived by his children, Susan Herman (Doug) of El Cajon, California, Luscinda Vowles Proctor (Dan) of Alpine, California, and Gregory Bovee (Judy), of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Lauren, Luscinda, Lindsay, Travis, Brett, Mark and Jennifer; his brother, M. Gaylord Bovee (Carmen) of Fountain Hills, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He touched so many lives in a devoted, compassionate way and will be missed forever by his loving family and friends. Viewing at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Care 400 S. Power Rd, Mesa. Funeral services at Velda Rose United Methodist Church, 5540 E. Main, Mesa, AZ. A private burial was planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Banner Gardens Hospice House, 1325 N. Fiesta Bl. Ste #1, Gilbert, AZ 85233.
