Sally Campbell, 57, died peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, after a long bout with cancer. She and her husband Dan have lived in Prescott for four years.

Born in Boulder, Colo., Sally married Dan in 1977. For 30 years she led a life of adventure, professional accomplishment and as one of the world's happiest mothers.

As a national leader in the movement to improve the lives of infants and toddlers she directed Healthy Families in Tucson and Alexandria, Va. and Best for Babies in Prescott. As a consultant with Prevent Child Abuse Arizona she provided training for juvenile court judges, their staff and many other child welfare professionals in six Arizona counties.

Sally's education included UC Berkeley, ASU and the Harris Institute for Infant Mental Health. She had many publications and awards to her credit. Perhaps her fondest recognition was by First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1998 ("it takes a village to raise a child") and again recently when 200 Arizona professional presented her their highest award, the Emily Fenichel Award.

However, nothing competed with her love of family. Sally is survived by her husband Dan; daughter and son McKenzie and Geordie; three brothers; and parents Lafay and Kathy Stapp of Glenwood, N.M. She will be remembered by hundreds of friends and colleagues.

Memorial donations can be made to carry on her Best for Babies program to Prevent Child Abuse Arizona, c/o Becky Ruffner, P.O. Box 432, Prescott, AZ 86302.
