Alice L. Grissom

Posted 2008-10-21 by Edward Peed
Graveside services for Alice L. Grissom, 105, were held March 21, 2002, at Dudleyville Cemetery. She passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home in Dudleyville.

Born Jan. 7, 1897, in Clarkville, Tennessee, she came to the Copper Basin 50 years ago where she and her husband lived in Hayden and then moved to Dudleyville. For the last 37 years since her husband passed away and up until last year she lived on her own and managed her own life. For the last six months her daughter, June Evans, and great-granddaughter, Melvina VanCleave, lived with her and helped take care of her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cal and daughter, Jenise Goble.

She loved her root beer floats from Buzzy’s and pizza from the Pizza Place. In an interview in January on the occasion of her 105 birthday, she attributed her longevity to a daily dose of vinegar and lemon juice and lots of walking.

Survivors include her daughter, June Evans, of Dudleyville; three granddaughters, Carol Hammond, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, UDell D. Holland, of San Manuel and Sharon Goble, of Winnie, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren. A great-great-great grandbaby is due in July 2002.
