Norma (Lewis) Kartchner

Norma Kartchner, 84, Dudleyville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa.

She was born Sept. 23, 1921 in Chama, New Mexico to Roy and Mabel Lewis. In 1960 the Kartchner family moved to the Hayden area from Miami.

A homemaker, Mrs. Kartchner was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for others. She enjoyed embroidery work and doing crossword puzzles.

In 1962, she went to work for Walt’s Jewelry Store in Kearny where she did bookkeeping, buying and selling until they closed in 1982. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions, including Relief Society President, Primary President, youth Sunday school teacher and adult Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her son, John N. (Barbara) Kartchner of Kearny; daughter, Sharon Capps of American Fork, Utah; half-brother, Danny Lewis of New Mexico; step-brother, Robert Tehran of Utah; half-sisters, Martha Wendt of Idaho and Virginia Cluff of New Mexico; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 Hammond Drive, Kearny. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Bishop Edwin Colby conducting. Interment will be at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami.

Griffith Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
