Matilda (Tillie) Jiron

Matilda Jiron of Chino Valley, Ariz., died Oct. 16, 2008, in Prescott, Ariz., surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Jiron was preceded in death by her husband, Liberato Jiron (Levi). She is survived by her daughters, Bella and her husband Albert Jiron, Jennie Yearsley, Rachol and her husband Raymond Gonzales and Ernamay and her husband Robert Konantz. She had 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Also surviving Matilda are her sisters, Benita Jiron, Juanita Gallegos, Lucia Martinez and Alice Benevidez, and her sister-in-law Modesta Sandoval.

Tillie, as she was known by her friends, was born in New Mexico on March 10, 1918. She taught her grandchildren to make tortillas, made delicious chili, and loved to dance to Spanish music. She was a beloved mother who tended her garden with a joyful spirit. She was elegant and ladylike, in the best manner of speaking; she loved her lipstick and shoes.

Most of all she loved her family and the Lord.
