NELIMARK, Donald Robert

Donald Robert Nelimark, M.D., 81, of Gold Canyon, AZ, was born on February 25, 1921, in Ely, Minnesota, to Walter and Anna (Nikka) and passed away, Monday, February 10, 2003. He graduated from Virginia, MN, public schools in 1938; Virginia Junior College in 1941; University of Minnesota with B.A. and B.S. degrees in 1944; University of Minnesota Medical School in 1945; internship at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan; residency in Internal Medicine at the V.A. Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan from 1948 to 1951. He served in the military from 1943 to 1945 ASTP as Captain, Medical Corps, A.U.S. 1946 to 1948. He practiced medicine in Mitchell, South Dakota, from 1951 to 1958; the LP Clinic in Virginia, MN, from 1958 to 1983; Virginia Regional Medical Center ER from 1983 to 1985; and helped establish U.S. Steel Dispensary, where he worked summers through 2002. Dr.

Nelimark was well known for his practice of medicine and his love of caring for people. He was from the "old school" of medicine where he was selfless, generous, and genuinely concerned for his patients. Even though his profession was very important to him, his family and friends fondly remember his playful sense of humor. Dr. Nelimark was a member of the Range Medical Society, Minnesota State Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Virginia Elks, American Legion, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and AARP. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Allen Nelimark.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Robert (Kathy) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Skip (Cheri) of Virginia, MN; daughters, Donna Reishus of Belize, Barbara Upthegrove (William) of Roanoke, Virginia, Michelle Spelts (Guy) of Chandler, AZ; 12 grandchildren: David (May), Brian, Laura, Anna, Dustin, Brittanie, Nathan, J. Tanner, Timothy, Mollie, Joey, and Christopher; great-grandchildren: Kaylen and Joseph.

Memorial service was held at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Apache Junction, AZ.

A celebration of his life will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia, Minnesota, in July, 2003.

Memorial donations will be sent to the Belize Family Life Association Clinic in Punta Gorda, Belize, Central America, where Dr. Nelimark's daughter, Donna, acts as clinic coordinator. Arrangements handled by Bunker's Desert View Chapel.
