Eugene Lee McGovern Sr., 77, Kearny, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at his son’s home in Globe. He was born April 15, 1929 in Hayden to Nate Jr. and Katy McGovern. A lifetime resident of the Copper Basin area, he was an electrician for 46 years with Kennecott Copper Corporation and ASARCO before retiring. He served with the United States Army from 1947 to 1951, during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He also repaired cooler motors for many years. Survivors include his daughter, Sherry and husband Harold Kelly of Prescott; sons, Eugene Lee McGovern Jr. of Kearny and Thomas Nathan and wife Susan McGovern of Globe; brothers, Billy Joe McGovern Sr. of Oracle, Bobby McGovern of Springfield, Missouri, and Jerry McGovern of Sundance, Wyoming; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A visitation was held Tuesday afternoon at Griffith Mortuary followed by graveside services at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden with Billy Joe McGovern officiating.
