Alfred Earl Crook was born in Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 24, 1934, and died Oct. 6, 2008, in Prescott, Ariz.

Al was a Navy veteran and was proud to have helped decommission the USS Missouri. He owned Midlakes Barber Shop in Bellevue, Wash., where he was well respected, for nearly 40 years before retiring to Chino Valley, where he continued his passion of horses. Al rode and showed all of his life and loved to help anyone with their horse, especially young riders. In the words of his son, Al fulfilled his dream of being a gentleman cowboy. Al was a gentle man of humor and integrity and great kindness.

He leaves behind his life partner, Carolyn Mason; son Richard O'Neill; daughter Melissa Thornley (Grant); and granddaughter Rhiannon Thornley. The love remains.
