Joan (Grim) Castruccio

Joan Grim Castruccio, born Nov. 22, 1918 in San Bernardino, Calif., peacefully passed away with family at her side, in Martinez, Calif., on Jan. 20, 2006.

She was the cherished mother of James Castruccio (wife Penny), Clarksville, Tenn., John Castruccio (wife Sheri) Alto, N.M., Mary Jo Castruccio (husband Robert Wieland), Martinez, Calif., and Lisa Brown (husband Barton Brown), Prescott, Ariz.

She was the proud grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 8.

The daughter of a Santa Fe Railroad official, Joan lived around Arizona and California. She attended high school in Winslow, Ariz., and Poly High in San Francisco. She attended college at San Bernardino City College and UCLA.

In addition to raising four children, Joan had a long career as a legal secretary in Prescott, Ariz., and Santa Barbara, Calif., where she later retired. She was actively involved in the Santa Barbara Legal Secretaries Assn.

Following open-heart surgery she became involved in the Santa Barbara County Mended Hearts Assn., a support organization to heart patients. She believed in giving back to the community, volunteering many hours to visiting heart patients and working for the American Heart Assn.

A memorial service for Joan will be held at the Santa Barbara Mission on Feb. 18, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a private scattering of her ashes at sea at sunset.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Mended Hearts, Inc., Chapter 22, c/o JoAnn Russell, 1520 Crestline Dr., Santa Barbara, Clif., 93105.
