VIRGINIA E. (REUM) CHANEY SUN CITY, Ariz. - Virginia E. (Reum) Chaney passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2007, in Sun City, Ariz. She was born in Rockford, Ill., July 16, 1922, to Walter and Edith (Stromquist) Reum.

Ginny was an exceptionally bright student and excelled scholastically all through her school years. She was a member of the last class to graduate from old Rockford Central High School in 1940.

In 1942, she married Paul J. Chaney, a love union that would last over 60 years until his death in 2002. The Chaney's moved away from Rockford in 1952, living in many places until they settled on Long Island in 1961.

Mr. Chaney's job allowed them to travel extensively. She visited Japan, Europe, and even the Soviet Union. Ginny was devoted to her family and raised three daughters.

In 1981, the Chaney's retired to Sun City, Ariz., where they spent many happy years. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed card games, Yahtzee and her precious kitty-cats. She was very active in her church serving as Treasurer of the United Methodist Women for over 10 years, a Stephen's minister and Circle leader.

She retained ties to her family in Rockford and to her beloved "Steno Debs," a club from high school days. Anyone who knew Ginny is blessed with lasting memories of a beautiful woman with a warm and welcoming smile.

She will be especially missed by those who loved her so -daughters, Carole (Rob) Hyde, Cindy Dermody and Cecelia (Richard) Sternhagen; grandchildren, Paul and Barbra Sternhagen and her brother, Ralph Reum (his wife, Virginia) and their children, David, Sally, Jim, Sue and Sandy.

Memorial service celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. March 17th, in First United Methodist Church, 9849 N. 105th Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the church.
