Ruth Carter passed away Nov. 1, 2008, at her home on the Necktie Ranch with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, the daughter of Harold and Mina Ball. Welcoming her home were her sisters, Virginia, Mary and Mildred.

She married Arden Carter in 1940 and they have lived on the Necktie Ranch in Walnut Grove almost all of their 67 years of marriage.

Ruth was a wonderful mother, homemaker and ranch wife. She excelled in baking pies, cakes and rolls. She was also a talented seamstress sewing Halloween costumes, crocheting afghans and creating beautiful quilts. She played a good ragtime melody on the piano and had all the kids bouncing along.

Ruth helped build the Walnut Grove Chapel in 1958 and was a devoted lifetime member. She was very proud of the Carter Ranch history and participated in the historical society to help preserve the heritage of this Arizona pioneer family.

She is survived by Arden and her children, Tripp Carter and Connie Andersen; grandchildren Autumn, Allison and Travis; and great-grandsons Braydon and Ari.

Gathering of friends will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home at the corner of Cortez and Carleton, Prescott.
