William D. McCauley, also known as Bill or Doyle, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 17 at Sun City West hospice. Bill was born Feb. 5,1921 in Tipton, Ind., to Clara and Bill McCauley Sr., and he was raised in the rural farming community.

Bill was a natural mechanic, and in early adulthood started a bicycle repair and sales business. He also loved motorcycles and rebuilt a wrecked “Indian” motorcycle to use as his transportation. He included motorcycles into his repair and sales operation. He often made the long trip from Tipton, Ind., to his sister Irene’s in Grand Rapids, Mich., on that first and favorite “Indian”.

In mid-adulthood he moved to the Denver, Colo., area and started a desert racing machine business. Racers brought their own selected vehicles, usually Jeeps, and Bill would customize them to their specs for their racing needs. Bill also raced his own creations in Arizona and Baja, Mexico.

About 1978 Bill retired from that business and moved to Yuma, Ariz., in his motor home where he met the love of his life, Ethel May. They shared their love of travel with the motor home and married in 1980 continuing to travel all of the 48 states for the remaining years. They moved from Yuma to their present home in Wickenburg in about 1982.

Bill loved life, fast machinery, animals (especially his dog “Peanut”) children, good food and most of all travel with his wife Ethel.

Bill is survived by his wife Ethel of Wickenburg; daughter Cindy of Denver, Colo.; niece Tudy Smith of Sharpsville, Ind., and nephews Richard and James Covert of Astoria and Salem, Ore.

Services where held at the Wickenburg, Elks Lodge 2160 Monday July 21. Burial will be in the Arapaho Cemetery in Clinton, Okla., Thursday July 24.

Arrangements are by David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home.
