Lynn Shepperd

Lynn Sheppard of Globe, passed away at home on Nov. 9, 2008, at the age of 82. He was a life long resident of the Globe Area from a pioneering ranching family dating back to the 1890s.

He was a rancher, rodeo cowboy and politician.

Lynn loved to ride horseback on the ranch or in the rodeo arena, and in 2004 he was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Gold Card Life Member.

Lynn was elected Gila County Supervisor for two terms and served one term as a State Highway Commissioner for the AZ Department of Transportation.

He was a past president of the Gila County Cattle Growers Association, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW and American Legion. Lynn was an army veteran of the Pacific Theater in WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; son, Lex (Marian) Sheppard; grandchildren, Lexie Nosie and Brent Sheppard; and great-grandson, Tres Nosie. He also leaves behind his special Aunt Pauline Scott, nieces Lynda (John) Kieckhefer, Stella (Bob) Brown and DeeJaye (Charlie) Poarch, as well as many other loved family and friends.

Services will be held at the Gila County Fairgrounds in Globe at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, with a potluck luncheon afterwards.
