Gerhard Kroenauer, 77, passed away on April 15, 2011, at his home in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on March 4, 1934, in Retz, Austria, to Richard and Maria (Proeglhocs) Kroenauer.

Gerhard grew up and attended college in Austria. He apprenticed to become a chef in Vienna. He immigrated to Canada and then the U.S. in the late '50s. He traveled with Hilton International Hotels as a troubleshooter chef. Gerhard married his wife, Patricia, in January of 1965. In 1968, he was chosen to become a member of the exclusive Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs. He also received awards from Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Blind Center, among others.

He and his wife came to Prescott in 1972, establishing Kroenauer's Delicatessen, then Mama Grogan's Hang Out and later Kroenauer's Other Place. Gerhard retired in 2000 due to illness. During his career, he and Patricia worked in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Texas and Oregon. They traveled overseas for both work and pleasure. Gerhard was enormously generous with those who needed help. They had a full life together.

Gerhard is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his brother Richard (Maria) Kroenauer. He is preceded in death by his brother, Hans.

Per Gerhard's wishes, there will be no service. The family suggests that donations in Gerhard's name be made to United Animal Friends or Yavapai Humane Society.
