Otis Ramsland Skjei

Remembering the Life...

Otis Ramsland Skjei was born on Feb. 12, 1928, in Madison, Minn., to Olai and Mabel (Ramsland) Skjei.

He grew up and attended school in Madison. He graduated from Madison High School in 1946. After graduation, Otis joined the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1948.

Otis was united in marriage to Marlys Digre in Madison in 1952. The couple made their home in Minneapolis, where their four children were born. He graduated from vocational school and his career in upholstery and boat tops was started. He owned and operated Aqua Top and the Norwegian Craftsman in Minneapolis for 18 years.

In July of 1972 Otis and Marlys sold their business and moved to Prescott, Ariz., and became owners of the Apache Lodge. Otis then recreated his Upholstery Business with Shay's Upholstery after the sale of Apache Lodge. Otis lived in Prescott for 38 years.


Otis passed away quietly on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Prescott Valley Good Samaritan Center, living to reach the age of 80 years.

Otis is survived by his wife, Marlys, of Prescott; three daughters, Kathryn Skjei of Henderson, Nev., Jody Skjei of Prescott and Mary Whillock of Phoenix; his son Michael Skjei of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Sam, Tom, Alexa, Keri, Kaycee, Erika and Holly; one sister, Margret Jean Schmoker, of Tyler, Texas; and his beloved dog Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Larry, Bob and Howard Skjei.

Otis enjoyed golfing, bowling, bridge and watching sports. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Otis was an active, fun-loving man who never sent a guest away without telling them to go with Love in Their Heart. He will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott, Ariz.
