| Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from June 16 to June 23, 2011 - Waltraud "Wallie" Erica Stanfiel, age 83, a 6-year resident of Fort Mohave, Ariz., passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at her home, with her loved ones by her side. Wallie, a retired LPN in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital in Minn., was born on July 17, 1927, in Leipzig, Germany. Her ambitions as a nurse started by the age of 18. She completed three years and nine months of a four-year nursing program when World War II broke out in Germany. During the war, she had her oldest son, Peter, followed by meeting her future husband, Peter Stanfiel, a native from Crosby, Minn. Eugene, their youngest son, was born a few years later. The family left Germany to come to the United States in 1967, where they lived in Chester, Minn. until moving to Fort Mohave in 2005. She was a beautiful and loving wife to Peter Stanfiel, Sr. for 63 years. She was a devoted mother who raised her boys until they were old enough for her to be able to return to her passion of being a nurse and caring for others. Always up for a challenge, Wallie enrolled in a 10 month Licensed Practical Nursing course at the Rochester Area Vocational-Technical Institute. With her slight German accent, her pronunciation of English words gave her more than a few problems. Dedication and hard work made it possible to memorize, become and succeed in the career she had always dreamed of. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and boating on the Mississippi at Wabasha Marina in Minn. Wallie was an amazing woman. Her courage and strength was admired by so many of the people whose lives she touched. The love she had for her beloved husband, Peter, was something they both cherish deep within their hearts. It is a love for one another that only few people actually experience, she definitely found her soul mate. Wallie will be forever in the hearts of so many people. She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Peter Stanfiel, as well as her mother, father, brothers, and other family members from Germany. Wallie is survived by the love of her life, Peter William Stanfiel, Sr.; son, Peter Eugene Stanfiel and daughter-in-law, Pamela Caye Stanfiel, both of Laughlin, Nev.; three granddaughters, Heather Michelle Stanfiel of Duluth, Minn., Heidi Lorraine Stanfiel of Fort Mohave, and Becky Lee Stanfiel of Fla.; three great-grandsons, Kyle Kucera of Duluth, Minn., and Andrew and Derek Stanfiel of Fort Mohave; and two great-grandchildren of Fla. Grama, we miss you so much, you will always hold a special place within our hearts. Love you always! A Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mohave Valley United Methodist Church, 1593 East Lipan Blvd, Fort Mohave, AZ 86426. |
