Lei Lani Hancock, was born March 3, 1939. She died August 11, 2002 in Prescott, Arizona. Lei Lani was the daughter of Glyda and Maxie Lee of Eagar, Arizona. Lei Lani was a native of Arizona.

She was raised in the eastern part of the state in the Eagar-Springerville area. In 1957 she graduated from Round Valley High School. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at Arizona State University.

While at Arizona State she met her husband Jim and they were married in Eagar, Arizona on September 2, 1961. She and Jim lived in Phoenix until Jim was drafted in December of 1961 and sent to Germany with the U.S. Army. During the army years she lived in Eagar-Springerville, Arizona and worked at the Safire restaurant with her parents. Jim was discharged from the Army in 1963 and they immediately entered the University of Arizona College of Law.

While in law school, they had their first child, Scott, born August 29, 1964. In 1966, after law school, they lived in Phoenix for a short period of time while Jim studied for the bar exam and then later worked for the Attorney General's office. They moved to Prescott in 1967 when Jim became City Attorney for the City of Prescott. Their daughter Cele was born March 6, 1967, the day Jim was to begin work as City Attorney. Lei Lani was a past president of The Sisterhood of P.E.O., Chapter Y, Prescott, Arizona. She belonged to numerous organizations including Prescott Fine Arts Association.

When her children were young she took other children into her home for day care. Later, she and her dear friend Sandy started a business named Personal Touch--caring for people when they were in need of help and friendship. She also worked at Secret's Etc. and most recently at Cecilia's Day Spa.

All of her life Lei Lani was a caring and loving person. She was very protective of all of her family. She had many, many friends. She liked to do things for people and was especially pleased and happy when what she did made others feel good or brightened their day. Sometimes the simplest gesture or comment was the most important. She was a vivacious person and her quality of life was very much on her mind in the last 15 months--she chose quality of life over other alternatives.

She loved her husband, and her children, Scott and Cele. She loved the outdoors--walking in the woods with Jim and their handsome golden retriever, Judge. She enjoyed the mountains, summer rains, winter snows, plants and trees. She liked animals--dogs, birds, deer, elk, antelope, fish and fishing however, she was less fond of cats and javelina. Her life was full and complete with all things dear to her and she would not have been happy without the things she loved.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jim, of Prescott her daughter, Cele, of San Francisco her son Scott and daughter-in-law Beth of Los Angeles and two wonderful grandchildren, Jesse William, age 4, and Leilani Kathryn, born 2:05 a.m. August 7, 2002. She is also survived by her father Maxie Lee of Eagar, her sister Vada Davis also of Eagar and her brother Greg Lee of Lonetree, Colorado.

Lei Lani's family is deeply appreciative of the care given by all of the nurses and aides at Yavapai Regional Medical Center, nurses for Home Health Services and the nurses for Hospice. We also want to thank everyone at Caring Presence, especially Pat Johnson, who was Lei Lani's loving and gentle companion.
