| The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 6, 2004 Jack Lincoln Kapp, passed away in Sun City, Arizona, on Saturday, April 3, 2004. Jack was born in Clarkdale, Arizona, on February 12, 1924, to John and Sue Kapp. He was raised in Prescott, Arizona, and graduated from Prescott High School in 1942. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He married Mary Ellen Warner in 1947. Jack graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1950. From 1952 to 1966 Jack and Mary raised their family in Prescott. They moved their family to Phoenix in 1966, where he owned his own retail hardware store for the next 18 years. Jack retired in 1984 and enjoyed the remainder of his life in Phoenix and Sun City. Jack was immensely proud of his Arizona heritage. He enjoyed Arizona history and loved traveling throughout Arizona, especially Monument Valley and Tubac. Outside of Arizona, "Papa" enjoyed many wonderful trips to Rocky Point with his children and grandchildren where he watched beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Jack spent the past ten years especially enjoying time with his family and friends. Jack's nine loving grandchildren held a very special place in his heart. He was an avid golfer and had a wonderful camaraderie of golfing friends, which greatly enriched the quality of his life. He was a genuine devotee to the game of golf and he was notorious for his adherence to the game's rules and etiquette. Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary, his children Kevin, Jana, Karen, Janet and Mary Clare, his daughter-in-law Mary Anne Kapp, and his son-i-laws Dave Thompson, Bob Calloway and Tim McShane. He was a loving grandfather to Travis and Megan Kapp, Kyle Thompson, Cody and Tyler Calloway, and Michaela, Kelly, Brianna and Lauren McShane. A memorial mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 9728 Palmeras, in Sun City, Arizona, at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. An additional memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Prescott, Arizona, following the Easter holiday. Jack was a quiet, good man and his passing has saddened his family and many friends, but they are comforted in knowing his faith has led him to his heavenly home. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Andre House, a house for hospitality for the homeless, at P.O. Box 2014, Phoenix, Arizona, 85001. |
