| Heritage Funeral Chapels, Chino Valley Funeral Home Chino Valley, Arizona Nick and Doris Davirro, 92 and 81 Died: Tuesday, June 07, 2011 Nick Davirro was born December 17, 1918, to parents Domenic and Maria (Antonacci) Davirro. He was born in Cleveland Ohio. Nick led a varied life. He served his country in the US Marines during World War II and there is a book titled "The War: An Intimate History 1941-1945" that contains a photo of him on those terrible sands of Iwo Jima. All of his fellow Marines are hugging the terra firma as they inch up the slope, but the inimitable Nick is up on his haunches, looking much like a prairie dog, while smiling for the camera. Among other pursuits he also worked as a Tile Setter, a miner, and did a lot of cowboying in the area valleys of Williamson and Skull. At some point in his early years he was also a lightweight amateur boxer. While Nick was busy raising his family with his late wife, Nona Doris Coor who was born September 23,1929 in Peoria, Arizona to parents Hanceford and Rae(Hightower) Coor, spent most of her life in Arizona. She attended Arizona State College at Tempe, and worked for a time with the State Agricultural Service while married to her first husband, Frank Myers. After Mr. Myers death, she farmed in the West Valley near 91st Avenue and Olive where she met and married her second husband, George Oakley. After George died, she met and married Nick and they lived for a time in Skull Valley, before moving to Chino Valley. Nick and Doris were avid bowlers and were part of a team that competed at the Plaza Bowl in Prescott. Doris was very active in breeding and showing championship Boston Terriers, and is known nationally as an expert in the breed. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Craige, who passed away in Japan while in the US Army shortly after WWII: as well as her 2 late husbands, Frank Myers and George Oakley. Nick and Doris will be sorely missed by all who knew them. The family has requested that donations be made to the Humane Society in their memory, since both were animal lovers. ~~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, June 23, 2011 Nick Davirro, 92, born Dec. 17, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, and Nona "Doris" Davirro, 81, born Sept. 23, 1929, in Peoria, Ariz., both of Chino Valley, Ariz., passed away June 7, 2011, in Prescott, Ariz.
