Freeman J. Wilson

Freeman J. Wilson, 84, a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at his home in Sedona, Arizona. Freeman, born in Phoenix, Arizona on September 21, 1917, was raised and educated in Phoenix by his parents, James R. 'Pop' Wilson and Jane Wilson.

Freeman attended Roosevelt School where his mother taught and also served as his sixth grade teacher and graduated from Phoenix Union High School where his father, head of the Science Department for thirty years, was his science teacher. Freeman graduated from the University of Arizona as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. A career executive, Freeman served in his capacity as Credit Manager of Phoenix based Arizona Feeds for forty years prior to his retirement in 1982. Freeman's professional credentials included a term as President of the Arizona Association of Credit Management and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Credit Management. Active in Phoenix civic organizations, Freeman's civic efforts were primarily directed to his long time membership in the Phoenix Downtown Optimists Club and as President of the West High Dad's Club.

A founding member of the Sedona Racquet Club, Freeman pursued his passion for tennis on weekends until his permanent move to Sedona in 1987.

An avid outdoorsman much of his life, Freeman combined his love of fly fishing with his skill as an accomplished amateur photographer to capture memorable Arizona scenic moments for family and friends alike.

Freeman spent a lifetime making his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred Louise, and his two sons, Dr. Brian J. Wilson, D.D.S of Phoenix, Arizona and Stanley F. Wilson, J.D. of Scottsdale, Arizona the center and purpose of his being.

In addition to his wife and sons, Freeman is survived by six grand-children, Angela L. Wilson of San Juan Capistrano, California Kent B. Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, Rebecca A. (Wilson) Curtner of Gilbert, Arizona, Scott F. Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, Sarah K. Wilson of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mathew S. Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona and three great grand-children.

A creek-side private memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in Sedona.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Humane Society of Sedona, 2115 Shelby Drive, Sedona, Arizona 86336 or the Alzheimer's Association, Arizona Chapter, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85005.
