Almarie Vesta Shelton

Almarie Shelton, 84, Cottonwood, Arizona passed away on October 13, 2003. She was born in Opal, Arkansas on January 6, 1919.

Almarie spent her childhood in Arkansas. She married Ralph Shelton in 1939, and they moved to Santa Ana, California.

She worked at various jobs including at a Douglas Aircraft Feeder Plant during World War II while her husband served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.

She became the mother of three children, and later assisted her husband in his restaurant business in Santa Ana. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Cottonwood, Arizona in 1985. Almarie experienced a wonderful retirement. She and her husband did some traveling she enjoyed gardening and canning the many fruits and vegetables that they grew. She and her husband had a large network of friends in the Cottonwood area, and she enjoyed the weekly game parties that they participated in. She was also considered a world-class Scrabble player.

Almarie became a devoted Arizona Diamondback fan and enjoyed watching them on TV. Almarie predeceased her husband by four days.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Metzger, two sons (David and Jimmy), a sister, Helen Egger, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for Almarie and her husband, Ralph, at the Verde Baptist Church, 102 S. Willard St., Cottonwood, Arizona at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2003.

Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, October 24, 2003 at 10:00 am.
