Blanche (Gillette) Smyers

Blanche Smyers, 85, of Globe passed away Nov. 17 at Copper Mountain Inn. Blanche was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Claypool, and moved to Noftsger Hill, in Globe, as an infant. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Gillette of Globe.

She had two sisters Helen Teta Martin (Bill), Marilyn Pollard (Junior) and one brother, Jimmy Gillette (Paula). She was very close to her siblings and enjoyed spending time with them and their families.

Blanche met the love of her life when she was 16 years old. Eugene Smyers became her husband on Dec. 3, 1939; they married at her parents house and then made their home two blocks down from her parents on Noftsger Hill. She had two children, Ronnie Smyers (Nancy) and Helen Kowalzyk (Ron). Blanche loved being a mother; she was active in the PTA and was very involved with her children. As her children grew older, Blanche decided to work. She loved life and working with people. She worked at the Ember Motel, Ramsey's Market and JC Penney's. She had six grandchildren; Amber (Toby), Kimberly (Reed), Jerrilyn, Jeffery, Andrea and Dena.

She spent many summers in Pinetop with her grandchildren. She had a unique relationship with each one of them. Blanche had eight great grandchildren.
