Alfred May, 88, of Chino Valley, Ariz., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Prescott. He was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Janesville, Iowa, to William and Maude May.

Alfred joined the Army in 1941 and received a bronze star for serving in the European theater. He was part of the Chino Valley VFW and American Legion. Alfred had a love for gardening and began working as a greenskeeper. Alfred helped build Antelope Hills and later worked for the United States Postal Service.

Alfred is survived by his wife Helen; son Michael (Pamela) of Montana; daughter Kerry (Terry) of Chino Valley; sister Catherine Lynch of Iowa; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and one granddaughter.

A visitation will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, followed by a 9 a.m. funeral service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chino Valley. Burial will be 2 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008, at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz.
