Dorothy (Vout) Sickles

Dorothy Vout Sickles passed away April 20th, 2007 in Cottonwood, Arizona. She was born in Holly, Michigan on October 29th, 1906 to Clyde and Edith Vout.

As a young girl her family moved to Flint, Michigan where Dorothy went to High School. In 1926, Dorothy's family moved to Pomona, California followed by a move to Phoenix, Arizona three years later.

She married Lane Sickles June 12th 1929 in Phoenix. They were married for 53 years when he preceded her in death. Lane and Dorothy had two children Margaret and Lane II.

In 1946 she cared for Lane II at the State Crippled Children's Hospital where he was a patient with polio. After his recovery, Dorothy continued to work at the hospital for 15 years and then transferred to the Child Welfare Department where she worked another five years. She loved working with the children and their families.

The following was written by Dorothy "I have been blessed with a wonderful family. Maggie was always a loving sweet girl and I am very proud of her. She graduated from NAU and became a teacher. She married and had three children, Penny, Dottie and Lionel (Chip). Her husband Wes Jackson was a wonderful man. Wes died five years ago. My son Lane graduated from the U of A and was very successful. He married Mary Heide and had two children Lane III and Jennifer. He passed away at age of 57. I have had a long life and during the years our family has grown to 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Yes, it has been a full and happy life", she concludes.

Dorothy's family thanks the staff at the Country Care Home in Cottonwood, Arizona for the loving care and support Dorothy ("Little Bit") was given by the staff while she was there. Dorothy's family will say good-bye in a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be given to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 South Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 or your favorite charity.
