James Lester Boyd, a resident of Cornville, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006 - his 85th birthday. He was born July 26, 1921 in Bridgeport - Cottonwood, Arizona to James F. and Myrtle J. (Mickle) Boyd.

During his youth, James proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Professionally, James worked as Lead Jet Engine Mechanic for United Airlines for 40 years.

Socially, James enjoyed the Culinary Arts. He was a member of the Professional Chef Association in both California and Arizona. He catered many banquets and wrote many of his own recipies. James also loved to golf. He was the Golf Marshal for the PGA; as well as for the LPGA in Tucson, Arizona.

James was also a member of the Founding Family of Jerome, Arizona. he was very proud of his community and the history in which his family was a part of - it was his grandparents, John and Kitty Boyd who built, owned and operated the Boyd Motel in Jerome, Arizona. Today it is memorialized with a plaque and is considered one of Jerome's historical sites.

James is preceded in death by his parents, J. Fred and Myrtle Boyd; and his wife Dorothy Crist Boyd. He leaves behind his son, Richard D. Boyd, with his wife, Benita, of Flagstaff, Arizona; his two daughters, Lynne Myrtle Boyd of Santa Clara, California, and Helene Frances Dannenberg, with her husband, Greg, of Apopka, Florida; and his only grandchild, Jessi Lynne Boyd.

There are local services. Contributions made in memory of James L. Boyd can be sent to Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, Ariz., 86326.
