Margaret A. (Babe) McClintock, 101, passed away on Nov. 20, 2008, in Prescott, Ariz. Born on June 13, 1907, to Henry and Sophia Doll in Dumont, Minn., she was the youngest of 12 children and was known affectionately as Babe.

In 1920, the family drove west and settled in California's San Fernando Valley, where she attended school and later became chief telephone operator of the San Fernando Telephone Co. She met and married Lloyd R. (Mac) McClintock in 1928, and they were soon off to explore the Pacific Northwest in hopes of reaching Alaska. By the time they arrived in Seattle, the Great Depression had started and their journeys ended in Colorado and California.

In the early 1940s, the family moved to Oregon, where they lived for 18 years. In 1958, they fulfilled their dream of moving to Alaska, where Mr. McClintock was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After her husband's death in 1963, Margaret worked for the Juneau-Douglas Telephone Co., retiring in 1972. In 1990, she moved with her daughter to Anacortes, Wash., and in 1994 to Prescott, Ariz., where she has resided since.

Margaret experienced a long and eventful life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was an avid hiker until her mid-90s and later exercised on a treadmill. Margaret loved traveling and took her last motor home trip at age 100.

She was a lifelong Democrat and enjoyed politics. At age 101, she voted for her presidential candidate.

Margaret is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Lloyd and Carolyn McClintock of Big Lake, Alaska; her daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Cecil Hawkins of Seneca, S.C.; and daughter Jacquelyn of Prescott; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family would like to express gratitude to the Rose Lane Adult Care Home and Hospice Family Care for the exceptional and loving care given to Margaret during her last year. We would also like to thank Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home for their very able and caring assistance with the final arrangements.

Services will be at the Willamette Veteran's Cemetery in Portland, Ore., at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice Family Care Inc., 100 East Sheldon St., Prescott, Ariz., 86302.
