Lawrence Burns Sr. (Bockie to family; Larry to friends) passed lovingly to eternal rest with his family and friends surrounding him.

He is preceded in passing by his wife, Jane Burns; one son, Stephen; and Daniel Gitchen, a beloved son (in-law).

Born in New Orleans, La., he moved with his wife Jane and the four surviving children to Santa Ana, Calif., and worked in the industrial finance field for CIT Corp. until retirement in 1996. Operating a small business and performing volunteer work, he and his wife Jane retired again and moved to Lake Arrowhead, and then in 2000 moved to Prescott, Ariz. Larry had recently moved back to California and lived in Capistrano Beach with his daughter Peggy Gitchen.

Larry is survived by his sister Elizabeth Wells; his sons, Larry Jr. (Sandi) and Thomas (Desiree); and daughters Peggy Gitchen and Judy (Dr. Don) Sulltrop. He was blessed and is survived by seven grandchildren, Bart, Dustin, Nolan, Brandon, Ryan, Katie and Lauren; and four great-grandchildren. He leaves a wide circle of friends and extended family, all who loved his Irish wit and charm and are sustained by his warmth and character.

A Vigil Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at O'Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, Calif. A Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church, 21682 Lake Forest Drive, Lake Forest, Calif. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, New Orleans, La.
