William B. (Bill) Martin, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather and friend to all, passed away peaceably with his family at his side on July 23, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, Ariz.

Dad was born in Lee County Kentucky on Jan. 27, 1928.

His parents, Shelby Martin and Anna Rowland Martin, and brothers Arnie and Omar, preceded dad in death. Also preceding dad in death was a sister Agatha and his stepfather, Glenn Cotton.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Janet of Mayer; sister Jean (Harold) Robertson of Sun City; and brother Rodney (Rhoda) of Kingman. Dad also is survived by his sons, Don (Page) and Gary (Tammy) of Kingman; and daughter Scheryl (Danny) Wood of Salem, Ore. Dad is survived by six grandchildren, Pam Teskey (Ivan), Melissa Brennan (Mike), Jim Martin (Shannon), Billy Palmisano, Ryan Wood and Savannah Wood. Dad's six great-grandchildren include Mikayla Brennan, Mikenna Brennan, Stephanie Teskey, Vanessa Teskey, Ivan Teskey Jr. and Logan Martin. Dad's extended family included many nieces and nephews.

Dad served his country in the United States Navy from 1946-48 and again from 1950-51. He achieved the rank of Fireman First Class and served on the hospital ships USS Repose and USS Hope.

Dad worked as an auto mechanic most of his life and was known as a "Mr. Fixit" to his family. In his later years, Dad loved to work in his garden and feed his birds in Mayer.

Papa was raised in Ross's Creek and Beattyville, Ky., but moved with his family to Miamisburg and West Carrolton, Ohio at a young age. Dad moved to Arizona in 1948. On July 3, 1949 Dad married Alciel O. (Peggy) Smith of Tolleson in Mexico.

Dad and mom resided in Casa Grande, the K-4 Ranch on Walnut Creek, and Glendale before moving to Mayer in 1982.

Dad and mom were married for 38 years. Mom passed away on July 31, 1987 in Phoenix.

In 1987 Dad met Janet Murphy, who was destined to be his soul mate for the rest of his life. She remains to this day our loving mom and grandmother. They were married on Sept. 15, 1993 in Prescott and resided in Mayer. We all know that without Janet's help, we would have lost Dad 21 years ago.

Dad lived a full and happy life and was proud of his family.

As one of his granddaughters said, "This is not goodbye Papa, this is only until we see you again!"

Services were Monday, July 28, 2008 at Chapel of The Chimes in Glendale with interment at the Veterans National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
