James Richard (Jimmy) Jennings

James Richard Jennings, 59, known as Jimmy to his family and friends, died Sept. 5, 2010, in Florence. He was born Dec 16, 1950 in Staten Island, New York.

His family soon moved to San Diego, Calif. where he lived for over 30 years. His favorite toy truck sported a “CA NATIVE” bumper sticker.

Jimmy grew up in San Diego, loving both the beach and the mountains. He and his family spent many happy weekends at their beach house in Roserito, Mexico, and at their cabin on Palomer Mountain. Camping and backpacking in the Sierra Mountains in Calif. was another favorite activity. He was very musical and played clarinet, he attended Mesa Community College in San Diego, Calif. earning a degree in landscape design. He was a landscape gardener for many years.

Jim married Laura Germain twice, a quick elopment to Yuma in March 1986, and again in San Diego with family, close friends, and Pastor Widmann from Grace Lutheran Chuch June 22, that same year.

He was preceded in death by his father, James T. Jennings; step-son Mark Christian Hann; and mother Mary Jane Jennings (Jan. 2011).

He is survived by his wife, Laura Jennings of Show Low; stepdaughter Valerie Lyn; his adored granddaughters: Arianna Faith, Mia Hope and Lillian Grace; sisters Sally (John) and Susan; nieces Rosemary (Mikel) and nephew Brian; and a pack of beloved dogs.

His family, friends and fellowship will miss his beautiful smile, his wizardry at Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble. “What a memory he had!” Jimmy’s ability to grow just about any plant, flower, or vegetable, and his “barking spider burritos”, and his love of live, “we will miss him always and wish him peace. Love you beans, to pieces.”
