Doris McKelvey Bonham, 94, died at her home Thursday, Nov. 20, with family at her bedside. Born in the farmhouse home of her parents in Creston, Ohio on April 19, 1914, she grew up learning the ethics of hard work, self-reliance and neighborliness.

Later, she moved to Cleveland where she met her first husband, E. Madison George, in the Methodist church choir. Married in 1936, she followed him west in 1946, driving herself and their two young children across country to Kingman.

In 1954, she married Frank Bonham. Widowed in 1992, she continued to live in her favorite house until she made the move, at the age of 86, to Camp Verde in 2000 to be near her son, Bruce George and his wife, Pat.

Survivors include her children, Karen and Bruce; their spouses, Richard and Pat; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of Doris's life will be held today, Nov. 23, at the Camp Verde United Methodist Church, 480 South 1st St. with a 3 p.m. reception afterward.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity or your local hospice. Bueler Funeral Home assisted the family.
