Lebanon (PA) Daily News July 1997 Monsignor Joseph P. Kealy, 79, a former Pennsylvania resident, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at the Regional Medical Center in Payson, Ariz. Born in Mt Carmel Junction on Sept 18, 1917, he was a son of the late James M and Brigid Cooke Kealy. He studied at Mt St Mary's Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md., and at St Charles in Philadelphia. He was ordained by Bishop George L Leech in St Patrick Cathedral of Harrisburg. He was made a monsignor by Pope Paul VI and was assistant at St Rose of Lima Church, York, and St Mary's Church in Lebanon. He was principal of York Catholic High School. His first pastorate was St Andrew Church in Waynesboro, then he became pastor of St Francis Church in Gettysburg, St Patrick Church in Trevorton, St Mary's Church in Lebanon and Holy Infant Church in York Haven. He retired in 1987 and moved to Arizona, where he worked among the Indians at Payson and served in numerous other posts. Kealy was a past spiritual director of the Legion of Mary, a diocesan consulter, the secretary to the Cursillo Movement, director of Catholic Charities of Gettysburg, a member of the board of the Northern Office of Catholic Charities, dean of the Shamokin Deanery, spiritual moderator of the Shamokin Deanery Council of Catholic Women, and chairman of the diocesan committiee for aid to inner city and mission parishes. He also was a member of the Diocesan Cemeteries Board, the Priests Retirement Board and the Diocesan Mission Board. He was vicar for Spanish speaking Catholics of Lebanon County. Surviving is a sister, Elizabeth McAndrew, of Hazelton, and several nieces and nephews. ~~~~~~~~~~ same issue: Kealy--In Payson, AZ on July 19, 1997, Msgr Joseph P Kealy, formerly of PA. Funeral Mass will be held Friday morning at 11:00am from Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church, S Market St., Mt Carmel, PA with Rev Hubert J Kealy & Rev Joseph Coyne, Nephews of Msgr Kealy officiating. Interment in St Mary's Cemetery, Mt Carmel PA. Friends and relatives are invited. Friends may call Thursday following a 7:00pm vigil service at the church until 9:00pm, also Friday 9:00am to 11:00am at the church.
