BAPCHULE - Lorenzo "Smitty" Smith, 72, of Bapchule died Feb. 5, 2007 in Mesa.

The graveside service was at Vah-ki Cemetery at Casa Blanca. Mr. Smith was born to Martin Gonzales and Esther ESCHIEF. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He returned to Arizona 50 years ago and soon began to buy cattle and horses. He farmed and worked at Jenson Tools in Tempe as a warehouse supervisor. He loved the outdoors and, while living in Colorado, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and visiting many other states. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and after retiring, was a true cowboy. He made many trips to Colorado to visit family and was known for his sense of humor.

Survivors include five daughters, Vangie Smith-Gomez and Lorenz Smith of Denver, Martha Smith-Hahn of Pine, Colorado, Rose Smith-Chavez of Bapchule and Laberta Smith-Gutierrez of Broomfield, Colo.; a brother, Owen Eschief of Casa Blanca; two sisters, Pricilla Antone and Gladys Alvarez of Laveen; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Katherine; a daughter, Derlene Smith-Cordova; a son, Lonzo Smith; and four sisters, Lorraine Milda, Oleta Parra, Christine Pardo and Lolita Eschief.
