| DEWEY - Loren Walter Wilson, 79, formerly of Casa Grande, died peacefully on Sept. 22, 2006 at his Dewey home. A celebration of life will be held later in Illinois. Mr. Wilson was born Aug. 14, 1927 in Westervelt, Ill., to John W. and Iva M. Johnson Wilson. He served in the Army's 11th Airborne Division. He and his wife farmed near Shelbyville and Cowden, Ill. He learned to master heavy equipment to provide for his family and was a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Union. He and his family moved to Phoenix in 1968, and he obtained a bachelor's degree in education and later a master's degree in secondary education from Arizona State University, in 1972. He taught industrial technology at Moon Valley and Thunderbird high schools. He then spent 14 years as a professor at Central Arizona College, where he developed and oversaw the Heavy Equipment Technology program. He and his family lived in Casa Grande from 1974 to 1994. He worked closely with many Arizona communities and industries, including the Gila River Indian Community and several mining operations. He was a visiting professor in Sydney, Australia, through an exchange program. He loved play and competition. He played sports in high school and enjoyed bowling, bird hunting, horseshoes, table tennis and checkers. He was a passionate golfer and also loved sports as a coach, working at different levels including with golf at CAC. He did things in his own time and with a smile. He was devoted to his family. Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Shirley Joan (Burk); three sons, David Loren, Danny A. and Darrell E. Wilson; a sister, Margery Eversole; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dallas.
