James Everett Krieger, known and loved as "Jim," of Cottonwood, Ariz., died Aug. 29, 2008, at the age of 84. He was the son of Ida Louise (Steffen) and William Christopher Krieger, born Jan. 27, 1924, in Hastings, Neb.

Jim attended the Long Beach City College where he received his associate's degree in diesel Mechanics. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines Corps. He was discharged in June 1946, having received the Good Conduct Medal for his dedicated service. In September of that same year he married Ruth Joan "Jo" Ashford.

Professionally, he worked as a diesel engineer for the California Department of Fish & Game. After 27 years, Jim took his retirement and moved to Arizona, where he built his very own home, in which he and Jo made their final home. During his time in the Verde Valley, he worked for the Verde Independent and CATS, who gave him recognition for his outstanding service. Jim also served as an officer in four chairs with the Elks Club in Clarkdale and ran the fish fry for three years.

When not in the service of others, Jim also enjoyed wood carving.

Jim was the loving husband of Ruth Joan "Jo" Krieger for almost 62 years; he was also the devoted father of Michael James Krieger (Teresa Ann) of Santa Rosa, Calif.

Memorial Services and a gathering of family and friends were Aug. 30. Jim will be laid to rest at the Verde Valley Cemetery in Clarkdale, Ariz.

Memorial donations can be made to the Elks Lodge Charity Fund, 300 S. Broadway St., Clarkdale, Ariz., 86324.
