John Lyman Merrill, 92, of Rimrock, died Sept. 20, 2008. He was born Feb. 27, 1916, near Declo, Idaho, to the late Ira and Jessie (Smith) Merrill.

John studied law at University of Arizona Law School and worked many years for the City of Mesa having served as city attorney, city magistrate and justice of the peace. After his retirement he and his wife, Eva, moved to Rimrock where they have lived for 22 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eva Merrill; his children, Kurt Merrill (Sharon) of Mesa, Lisa Russell of Mesa, and Karen Gardner of Lindon, Utah; his brother, Keith Merrill of Tempe; his sisters Viola Bassinger of Los Angeles, Calif., and Cerise Cox of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept.26, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Camp Verde Chapel, 360 S. Fifth St., in Camp Verde with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. A visitation will also be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 422 E. University Drive in Mesa. Interment will follow at City of Mesa Cemetery.
