Robert (Bob) Balcom, 79, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on January 11, 2007. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on Aug. 19, 1927, he grew up in Rapid City, S.D.

He served in the US Army in South Korea from 1945-47. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1951.

He worked in the public relations field in Chicago for 10 years and established his own company. In 1965 he went to St. Louis, Missouri and was the executive director of the Home Builders Association. In 1972, he became the president and owner of a corporation that created custom homes and apartment buildings. In 1984 he came to Ahwatukee and became a "snow bird." In 1994, he sold his business and stayed in Ahwatukee to enjoy his retirement.

He loved dancing, playing his accordion, and golfing, and made a hole-in-one.

He is survived by his wife, Nema, 3 daughters, Claudia Balcom-Milks, Laurie Balcom, and Melinda Warden; 3 grandsons, Benjamin Parli, Johathan Parli (Danielle), and Timothy Parli (Caryn); 2 step-children, Dave Wilhardt (Denise) and Beverly Thompson (John); 5 step-grandchildren, 4 brothers, 1 sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St, Phoenix.

Private interment will be at St. Francis Cemtery in Phoenix.

He is now with the glory of God, and his family and friends will always love and miss him.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Assoc. or Hospice of the Valley.

National Cremation Society handled arrangements.
