Erma Harriet (Golightly) Stanley

Erma Harriet Golightly Stanley, 98, of Wickenburg, Ariz, passed away on April 27, 2008. She was born November 13, 1909 in Jackson Township, Madison County, Iowa. Erma was the youngest child of Sanford T. and Minnie Golightly. She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She graduated from Earlham High School in 1929 where she played running forward on the girls basketball team. Erma attended junior college and received her teaching certificate which allowed her to teach in a one room school house.

On October 27, 1935, she married Lawrence C. Stanley in Earlham, Iowa.

Together, they owned and published a weekly newspaper in Monroe, Iowa for 12 years. The newspaper business took them to Greely, Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona. She lived in Phoenix for 43 years and was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Erma moved to Wickenburg, Ariz. in 2000.

An avid Phoenix Suns fan, she always had the game on radio or T.V. What a remarkable lady she was!

Erma was proceeded in death by husband Lawrence Stanley in 1977 and is survived by her two sons, Leland (Nancy) and Larry, two granddaughters, Cynthia Fraher (Andy) and Melissa Sherwood (Scott), and five great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held.
