George Russell (Russ) Fields

George Russell "Russ" Fields, age 65 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and step children, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 after a long illness.

Russ was born in Blakley, WV Nov. 23, 1938.

He joined the Army in 1955. After serving 3 years he was discharged and returned to WV. Two years of civilian life and he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired from Nellis AFB in Nevada, after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, 3 overseas tours as well as being stationed at many state side locations. He was a lifetime member of the VFW #1433 American Legion #29, and DAV #20, all in Glendale, as well as a thirty second degree Mason.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen Hudnall & George Washington Fields. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Fields; 3 step children, Samantha Simpson, Michael Puterbauch, & Jennifer Helton and her husband Robert. Russ had 4 grandchildren, Ariana & Marco Escobar, Justyce & Riley Helton. One brother, Orville "Hank" Fields and his wife Gwen of St. Albans, VT. And their son, David L. Fields, his wife Anne, and their children Kelsey & Alyssa of Milton, VT. Their daughter, Deborah Fields Gerow and her husband Ted of New Haven, VT; one half sister, Mary Ann Tackas and her children Capri, Monty & Mark, all of Johnson City, TN; several cousins in WV in the Hudnall and Shamblin families.

Graveside service was January 27, 2004 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ. A reception following the service at the DAV Chapter 20, 8447 N. 61 Ave, Glendale, AZ Sponsored by the DAV Ladies Aux. Memorial Donations to either Masonic Lodge #220, Austin, TX, American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley. Arrangements by Lundberg White Rose Chapel, Glendale, AZ.
