Philip J. Maass passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at his home in Prescott. He was born May 22, 1929, to Henry and Esther Maass in Rochester, Minn.

Phil spent most of his life in the Rochester area, where he worked as a plumber and steamfitter with the Sanitary and Himec Companies and as a construction manager for the Mayo Clinic.

He also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Phil and Lois, his wife of 51 years, moved to Prescott in 1995.

He enjoyed boating, camping and hiking and spending time with his family and friends. His hobby was woodworking, and he was a member of the Rochester Woodcarvers Club, the Prescott Area Woodturners, the Arizona Woodturners Association, and the American Association of Woodturners.

He spent many hours in his shop creating works of art from a vast variety of different woods.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Dale Maass of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers, Ted of Minneapolis, Minn., and Paul of Rochester, Minn.; and a sister, Nancy McLeod, of Longmont, Colo.

Phil was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Peggy, in 2004; a sister, Joan Polikowsky, of Jackson, Minn. and his parents.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Prescott. Services will also be held in Rochester, Minnesota, where his remains will be placed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Hospice, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, or to the donor's choice.

The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
