The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, February 6, 2002 GEORGE H. McMILLAN, DDS - Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2002 at The Church at Litchfield Park for Dr. George H. McMillan who passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at the age of 95 years. Dr. McMillan was born in Jerome Junction (Chino Valley), Arizona, on Sept. 18, 1906 to George E. and Rosalind Winship McMillan. He attended the U. of Arizona and Denver University Dental School graduating in June 1929. No sooner had he set up his practice in Jerome, Arizona, where he was raised, that the Great Depression began. Dr. McMillan continued to care for his many patients and was repaid with produce, jewelry, watches that didn't work and guns that didn't fire, if he was paid at all. He married his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth Galbraith in 1931, who passed away in 1980. He continued to practice in Jerome and later in Clarkdale until 1943 when he moved to Litchfield Park, Arizona at the invitation of P.W. Litchfield to open a practice there. He was the only dentist at that time between Phoenix and Yuma. He played piano professionally during his youth and after his retirement from dentistry after 49 years. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Psi Omega, a dental fraternity. He was a lifelong member of Kiwanis and the Masonic Order. He recently served as President of the local Shriner's Club. He has belonged to the Wigwam Country Club for over 50 years. Often he conducted tours on the Verde Valley Railroad out of Clarkdale where he regaled them with his knowledge of that area and his many stories of the "old days". He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Stratford of Portland, Oregon and Diane LeMaire of Sun City and by his son, Dr. George Robert McMillan of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Additionally he leaves a group of dear friends from the old Litchfield Drug Store coffee group whom he dearly loved.
