James L. (Jim) Lewis

James L. Lewis, age 83, of Prescott, a Native of Arizona, died February 19, 2007 at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Jim was born in Clarkdale and grew up in the Verde Valley.

He graduated from Clarkdale High School and joined the Army.

Jim was a Tailgunner in the B24 Liberator and flew 30 missions in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945. As a Staff Sergeant, Jim was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars the Good Conduct Medal Air Medal and a Presidential Citation.

When Jim returned to civilian life he worked for the Mullen Bros. in Kingman, and then in 1952 came to Prescott and opened the Prescott Lumber and Roofing Company with his brother in law George Rothfuss.

Jim was very active in the community. He was the President of the PRS 30 in 1976, Chamber of Commerce, Planning and Zoning Dept from 1994-1998, the Water Commission in 1982, the Governing Board of YRMC, the Jaycees, 20-30 Club, the Masons, and the Coffee Club meeting mornings with friends to discuss the state of Prescott, Arizona and the World.

Jim is survived by Teddi, his loving wife of 32 years; his children; John E. Lewis, James M. Lewis, Jay W. Lewis and Janice L. Lewis and stepson Jubal N. Hunt. Family members, Frances Sutton, June Pedone, Dolly May Thum, Velma Rezzonico, Jack Lewis, Bill Lewis, Ron Lewis, Don Lewis, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 24, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Prescott United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
