Neil Richard Stamp, 56, of Cave Creek, Arizona, died July 10th, 2003 in Cheyenne, Wyoming while ferrying an airplane for the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). He was born and raised in Salem, Ohio, where his father, J. Floyd and brothers Donald, John, and Gary still reside. His Mother, Helen Ruth Auld, preceded him in death.

Neil was a 1965 graduate of Salem Senior High School and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Aerospace Technology where he was President of the Flying Club. He served as a helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. His passion for flying included a 25-year career with USAirways where he was a Pittsburgh based Captain on international duty. He was an accomplished helicopter pilot and flew vintage aircraft for the CAF where he was the Chief Operations Officer.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Starbuck Stamp, and his son, Adam Michael who graduated from Brophy College Preparatory this spring. His tragic and untimely death will be mourned by his family and friends who loved him dearly. A memorial service was held at the Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale. Contributions may be made to the Arizona Wing of the CAF, 2017 N. Greenfield, Mesa, AZ 85215; the Salem High School Community Foundation, 713 E. State St., Salem, Ohio 44460; or the Kent State University School of Aerospace Technology, Kent, Ohio 44242. Published in the Arizona Republic on 7/13/2003.
