He was awarded the European Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

After leaving the service he went to work as a plumber in his hometown of Greenwich. In 1958 he moved to Bloomville, N.Y., in the Catskill Mountains and started a dairy farm. Five years later he sold the farm and went into business with his brother John building and remodeling houses.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Claire Gramlich of Camp Verde; his daughter, Susan Ayers (Steven) of Camp Verde; and his brother, Allen Gramlich (Margarete) of Greenwich, Conn.
